The 6th meeting of the national Migrant Integration Strategy Monitoring and Coordination Committee (MISMCC) took place on Wednesday the 20th of February 2019 in the offices of the Department of Justice and Equality in Dublin.
The committee is chaired by Mr David Stanton T.D., Minister of State with special responsibility for Equality, Immigration & Integration and includes members from Government Departments, State Agencies and Non-Governmental Organisations. The Committee was established under Action 74 of the national Migrant Integration Strategy and has the responsibility of supporting the process of implementing the actions of the strategy.
The Migrant Integration Strategy is the national strategy that defines the actions to be taken on integration in the period from 2017 to 2020. It includes 76 actions which fall under the responsibility of Government Departments; Agencies and Local Authorities.
The most recent committee meeting featured:
- Presentation from Dr. Fran McGinnity of the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) on a research report which maps the availability of quantitative data on migrant integration in Ireland. The final version of the report is due to be launched on the 14th of March 2019.
- Presentation from the Office for the Promotion of Migrant Integration (OPMI) on the Progress Report to Government. The report provides a summary of progress on each action in the Migrant Integration Strategy as well as recommendations and conclusions to be taken into consideration in the next stage of the implementation period of the strategy.
- Presentation from OPMI regarding the engagement with Local Authorities and the work being done to ensure better linkages between local and national action on integration.
