The Shoah in Europe: Exhibition
- The Holocaust Memorial Trust has brought this exhibition to Dublin, in association with the Memorial de la Shoah, Pars and the French Embassy in Ireland. It coincides with the National Holocaust Memorial Day Commemoration on 29th January 2012. The exhibition presents an overview of the Nazi régime in Europe, before the war the deportations, life in hiding, and the aftermath. Minister Shatter will open the exhibition. World Holocaust Memorial Day - 27/01/12
27 January has been chosen throughout Europe as Holocaust Memorial Day (UN International Day of Commemoration of the Holocaust). It is the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz – Birkenau concentration camp in 1945.

The national Holocaust Memorial Day commemoration takes place on the Sunday nearest to 27 January every year.
Mission Statement
The Holocaust Memorial Day commemoration is designed to cherish the memory of all of the victims of the Nazi Holocaust. A candle-lighting ceremony is an integral part of the commemoration at which six candles are always lit for the six million Jews who perished, as well as candles for all of the other victims. The commemoration serves as a constant reminder of the dangers of racism and provides lessons from the past that are relevant today.
The Holocaust Memorial Day commemoration demonstrates the Irish Government’s commitment to the Declaration of Stockholm, 2000, when the 44 signatory countries undertook to commemorate and teach about the Holocaust every year.
Holocaust Education Trust Ireland advises and assists Government with organising the annual Holocaust Memorial Day commemoration.

Practical Guide on Citizenship Procedure
Doras Luimní and Clare Immigrant Support Centre are hosting a free seminar to explain the procedures involved in applying for Irish Citizenship Dr. Carmen Frese, a specialist in the area of citizenship application, will deliver comprehensive advice and information on the new procedures involved in applying for Irish citizenship. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and case workers from Doras and CISC will be on hand to meet with individuals following the main presentation. A representative from New Communities Partnership, Limerick will also be present to explain the service NCP offers to people applying for citizenship.

Sport Against Racism Ireland (SARI) in association with the GAA would are organising this unique sporting occasion for Europe Day. Africa Day 2012 falls on Friday, 25th May, but events will take place in the week from 20th – 27th May.
Africa Day celebrations provide an opportunity for all those who are interested to raise awareness and understanding of development issues in Africa, to highlight the cultural richness and diversity of Africa and to increase awareness of the Irish government’s development cooperation programme in Africa. There will be a particular focus in 2012 on highlighting the importance of economic and trade links between Africa and Ireland.

Former Olympic champion, Kipchoge Keino of Kenya, will fire the start gun on the day. As part of Africa Week 2012, the Dublin Multicultural Centre in partnership with Sport Against Racism Ireland (SARI), Cradle, the Integrated Academy for Athletic Performance of the Offaly Sports Partnership, the Integration Centre with the support of Akidwa, Athletics Ireland, Clonliffe Harriers, Communicorp, Fingal Ethnic Network, the Immigrant Council of Ireland, Insaka Ireland, the Kip Keino Foundation, the Mo Farah Foundation, Metro Eireann and Sport Aid from Africa will stage this unique Africa Week Athletics event.
The long term goal of this programme is to help address the imbalance in participation in the sport of athletics by people of an immigrant background (and in particular people of an African background).
A range of athletic events for juveniles from U-8 to U-16 as well as junior, senior and masters’ events will be held.

Anti-Racism Soccer Tournament

SARI/UNHCR World Refugee Day Fair Play Cup
This 3rd Annual Fair Play Football Cup will feature refugee teams from Somalia and the Democratic Republic of Congo, SARI's own team of young players, media teams from Hotpress and The Star and other teams including NGO workers and Government officials.
Other entertainment at this free family-friendly event will include football skills training, face painting, hoola hoop and juggling workshops, music and much more.
The event also kicks off the do 1 thing campaign. The campaign asks people in Ireland to take one simple action to show support for refugees and asylum seekers in Ireland and internationally who have fled their homes in the hope of finding safety in another country.

"Moving to Mars"
- UNHCR are hosting a gala screening of this award-winning feature length documentary. The film follows two refugee families from Myanmar over the course of a year that will change their lives completely. Driven from their homeland, they have lived in a Thai refugee camp for many years. A UNHCR resettlement scheme offers them the chance of a new life, but their new home, in the British city of Sheffield, will be different to everything they have ever known.
The feature-length documentary from Mat Whitecross depicts the families' moving and sometimes humorous struggles with a 21st century Western European city. Their stories give us a unique insight into the experiences of displaced people throughout the world, whilst showing the human consequences of Myanmar's political unrest.
The Minister for Justice, Defence and Equality, Alan Shatter, T.D. will open the screening and mark World Refugee Day with a few words before the start of the film. He will be joined by Sophie Magennis, UNHCR Ireland Head of Office and 25 of the Karen refugees from Myanmar now resettled in Ireland

World Refugee Day
The UN General Assembly, on 4 December 2000, adopted resolution 55/76 where it noted that 2001 marked the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees, and that the Organization of African Unity (OAU) had agreed to have International Refugee Day coincide with Africa Refugee Day on 20 June. The General Assembly therefore decided that, from 2001, 20 June would be celebrated as World Refugee Day.
This year the UN refugee agency, in its 60th year, will mark World Refugee Day with a rich and varied programme of events in locations worldwide and the launch of a new global awareness campaign. UNHCR will start rolling out the multimedia "One" campaign next week. Over the next six months it will increase awareness about the forcibly displaced and stateless by telling their powerful personal stories. The campaign will carry the message that "One Refugee Without Hope is too Many." Every day, millions of refugees face murder, rape and terror. We believe even 1 is too many.
Austria, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy and Portugal – will be holding special football tournaments between citizens of the host countries and refugees and asylum-seekers in cooperation with local partner organizations. Side attractions will include food stalls, face-painting, information stands and music. A number of countries in Europe will also hold umbrella parades, symbolising protection, including the United Kingdom and Austria.

"We're Here - Hear Us Now
This national consultation on integration and inclusion in Ireland will bring together young people and youth workers to tackle the issues and draft recommendations to be brought to the next EU Youth Conference in Cyprus.
Anyone attending the event who is over 18, has residency status in Ireland (i.e. can travel freely in the EU or can easily obtain a visa for travel within the EU) may apply for the two places that are available to young people living in Ireland to attend the EU Youth Conference in Cyprus.
Young people (from 14 upwards) and youth workers interested in the issue of integration and inclusion in Ireland are asked to attend, particularly those aged 18-30. The event is open to all.
Under 18s must submit a parental consent form.
Travel reimbursement will take place on the day. Reimbursement will be based on public transport rates (unless public transport is not feasible).

Nigerian Carnival Ireland

This year 40 men’s teams, 8 women’s teams and 8 Under-13 teams will participate in Soccerfest 2012, tackling racism, challenging discrimination and promoting dignity and respect for all. The Annual All Stars match will kick-off at 2pm on the Saturday with Olympic silver medallist John Joe Nevin captaining an All Stars Boxing Team.
There will be a Soccerfest skills challenge, World music, Drumming workshops, Capoeira, Face painting, Clowns and juggling workshops, FAI Soccer Skills training, GAA ‘Have a Go’, and much, much more…

Stepping Stones: Starting Second-Level School in Ireland
The Separated Children's Service of the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee (CDVEC) is screening their new DVD to accompany the launch of a new teaching resource for students starting second-level school in Ireland.
The DVD shows a new student’s visit to a second-level school before starting and their first days in school. It aims to assist Separated Children Seeking Asylum (SCSA), young refugees and migrants in integrating into the Irish school system by introducing some aspects of it to them. This film could be shown to any new students or sixth class, or used in CSPE classes.
Use of the teaching resource need not be restricted to working with SCSA and young refugees, it can also be used with migrant students within an education/youth context.
The Separated Children's Service has also recently launched a website where online resources will be made available.

Recognition of Foreign Marriage and Divorce in Ireland
This is the first information seminar to be provided by the Legal Service of Doras Luimni and it is on the topic of the procedures and requirements involved in recognition of overseas marriage and divorce from an Irish immigration perspective. Speakers will include barrister Colm O’Dwyer and Doras Legal Officer Okeremute O. Okeregha, who will present a case study looking at different types of marriages in Nigeria. This seminar will be of interest to voluntary and statutory service providers, including marriage registrars, working directly with migrants, as well as community groups whose members may experience issues around recognition of their marital status. The aim is to clarify the relevant legislation policy and procedures and provide an insight into the wide variety of forms of marriage and divorce that service providers may encounter. There will be an opportunity for discussion and for participants to ask questions at the event.

Integration through Sport - the German Lesson
On the eve of the World Cup qualifier, Republic of Ireland versus Germany, Sport Against Racism Ireland will kick-off FARE Action against Racism Week 2012 with a workshop on cultural integration and social inclusion through sport.
Gitta Axmann, representing the German Olympic Sports Confederation, will present the pattern of change that resulted in a radical shift in a participation strategy for migrants in the German sports system. Gitta, who holds a UEFA B coaching licence, will talk about the developments that have led to the German sports family drawing on the country's wealth of talent among it's ethnic minorities.
Ken Mc Cue of SARI will respond and detail the work of this social enterprise in the implementation of the EU White Paper on Sport and the strategic plan to have Equality Clauses inserted into the constitutions of the National Governing Bodies of Sport in Ireland by 2014. Ken will outline the work in progress that is designed to produce an anti-discrimination mobility manual for Further Education and Vocational Education and Training sectors in the field of Sport that will eventually lead towards a common cultural integration and social inclusion syllabus in academic and technical institutes dealing with sport across the European Union of 27 countries.
Max Mauro will present an overview of his practice based research that engages with the social worlds of two youth football teams based in the multi-ethnic district of West Dublin. This PhD study explores processes of identity, construction and reconstruction, culture, belonging and citizenship.
The debate will be mediated by Dr. Brian Kerr, former Manager of Republic of Ireland and Faroe Islands national football teams.

Deepavali or Diwali is the biggest and brightest Indian festivals, which is celebrated among all communities in India. Deepavali (Sanskrit: दीपावली Dîpâvalî) translates into ‘festival of lights.
